A pretty package

November 28th, 2005, posted in Sewing

I finished sewing a little envelope to wrap some Christmas ornaments in. I had been wondering how to present them. Just sticking them in the card to fall all over when opened didn’t seem . . . well – finished! for some reason. This illustrates how much better I’ve been feeling lately. I sat at my table, measured and marked out a plan to make the wrapper. Aside from one blip in sewing (didn’t follow my own directions!) it fell together beautifully. To quote from one of my canary’s favourite explosion filled TV shows, “I love it when a plan comes together!”

It is too bad I only had one length of this beautiful ribbon. It is perfect for the case. If I had known I would be inspired to make this project, I would have bought pretty ribbon while down below. One never knows what ones brain will run with! Knowing me if I had bought ribbon it would be sitting in my ribbon box for the next 10 years – and I’d be lamenting not having some other much needed *now* item. Somehow, hearing others bemoaning that their craft/needlework store is ever so far away, when mine is 300 miles or internet order variety, leaves me a might unsympathetic!(And it is so hard on me to have made a number of ornaments and not be able to show them off! Hurry, mail deliver soon!)

Wait, this is November 24th??

We are really getting confusing signals with our weather. The past 10 days have been above zero. Body and eyes are telling me it is either the end of September or it is Spring!!! Spring!!! (After all we did have some snowy -20C . . .and. . . and then some +10C!) Little Bit certainly hasn’t needed the nice warm sweater I knit for her.

The dogs love walking in this balmy weather. Although if it continues there won’t any snow patches left for Holly to roll in.

This is giving us some idea of the difficulties people in warmer areas face though. How does one get into a Christmasy frame of mind? There is no crisp cold air or frosty trees and as you can see the snow is almost non-existant.

But you don’t hear any complaints from this crew!

And Happy Thanksgiving to my friends in the States. I’m thankful to know you all!

Cross-Stitch colouring book

My fire truck is all ready to colour! I’m pretty pleased with how it is turning out. I know there is going to lots of back stitch and a loads of fractional stitches, but that is how I like it. Now to colour inside the lines.

I’m so glad I had first choice to stitch on this RR for Dina. I picked the little brown wren and the blackberries to stitch. (This is the secret to keeping me happily stitching away for hours – just look at the wonderful colours!)

This is the first time I have held back stitching until I first grid the fabric. After catching some miscounts before stitching (sorry Andromeda was on – space battles you know!) I think I am sold on the practice. Hopefully it will ensure I stitch where I’m supposed to and not throw the next stitcher off count!

Here is the link to model for an idea of what it will look like completed; I think Dina will be pleased with it after it makes the rounds of *guest stitchers*! Birds and Blossoms

This is the finished Aircraft Carrier using every shade of grey DMC has I’m sure! I hope Nate H enjoys it. This beauty just leapt onto the fabric. I find it funny that with a pattern like this – chocked full of 1/4 and 3/4 stitches and everything backstitched – I rarely make a mistake. Yet give me a simpler pattern and my mind wanders letting my fingers *x* along as they please. Seems like the easier the pattern the more I frog! And just a glimpse of what poor Holly has to put up with on a daily basis . . .
