Careful with the *H* word!

September 22nd, 2004, posted in Critters

It is funny how dogs pick certain words out of their extensive vocabularity to respond to with acclarity. Certain words are nabbed out of conversations not meant to be collected by canine ears.

“What would you like for dinner, sweetie?”

“Groan, am I ever tired after our long walk!!”

“Hey, need anything from town?”

“I put the cookies under the microwave.”

“Come look at this.” (pointing to the ‘puter monitor)

And the prize release word around our house, the word both humans use indiscriminately as a spacer while they attempt to collect a train of thought . . . usally spoken after finally getting two rottweilers and one very opinionated long-haired mini dacshie quiet and at down stay . . . the word the collective ears can hear a block and a half away whispered by a stranger . . .

“Okay!”

Bonk, Bonk, Bonk! Master, tell me again why we have three dogs? Around here people are looking at us strangely; it is sad to see to adults with grown children going about spelling key words . . . then spelling them backwards . . . mouthing words without sound . . .

But the word that must be spoken with ultimate care, the word all potential visitors are carefully warned about, the word that two people much in love must use in secret . . . the word usually spoken when you feel need to be held up . . .

a whole lot'a hug

“Honey, I need a Hug.”

Slow but sure

Another local business has purchased one of Steve’s framed photographs. A trucking firm bought the Ensign Rig #113.

Ensing 113

This 33″ picture is a composite of six separate images. It was sold framed in oak. Steve does all the work himself from the photography to the framing so he can control the quality of the end product. Can you tell I’m very proud of him?!?

You can see larger sizes of the image at DLP Graphics Ensign Rig 113 9955-04.

And just to disprove the Photographer’s Wife is always the last to have pictures on her walls, here is a shot of my picture wall.

Stitching Favourite Subject & Colours

a rottie's love
I have just mailed a square off for Love Quilts. This exquisitely designed rottie is for Kyle B. who chose realistic dogs (Yay, he likes Rottweilers!) His quilt will be put together by volunteers at the beginning of October. I know, I know I’m cutting the delivery of my square close again. Every time I sign up for a square I say never again, and then leave it to the last minute. But after this many years of living with me, I’m finally accepting that some things just aren’t going to change. You can see the scans of squares already completed for him here. The pattern, Rottweiler DR 501 ©2004 is by Canadian designer Brenda Franklin of Brenda Franklin Designs. This was a wonderful pattern to stitch; the chart is very clear and the symbols well chosen. There are no fractional stitches or back-stitching, yet the Rottie jumps to life under your fingers.
With heart felt thanks to my “imaginary friend” Pam at Classic Hobbies! (another not so LNS! )

Pea Bobbles

This spring I had a sense of impending doom . . . you see, I found a pattern for a knitted baby bib I couldn’t resist ordering. “Eat your Peas!” from E-PatternsCentral. I could see myself wandering the streets bib in hand, looking for a baby! Thankfully after I bought the pattern, two of the neighbouring ladies obliged by having daughters this summer! (phew!) I have now finished two and am starting a third since there is enough of the original materials, here kitty, kitty, kitty. . .

House of White Birches design by Liliane Dickinson with special thanks to Lisa for her inspiration to start multi-coloured works!
Just a note on purchasing the Adobe Acrobat patterns from e-patternscentral.com – the acrobat reader relies on something on your hard drive to allow you to open the pattern in the future. After a computer reload I could no longer access the three patterns I purchased. I found it a total hassle to put down my knitting (does anyone else knit at the computer?) and wait until a throng of e-mails swarmed to be able to download new copies. Now I have secure hard copies for future use.

Despite the interrupt to re-obtain, the pattern this bib was a blast to knit (& aside from the written directions differing from the graph). The pattern says the green border is a knit picot edge, but to me it is the greatest string of pea-bobbles I have ever come across. That’s me these days just a Pea-Bobblin’ along. And with wiping up three of the things, I finally got some practise hanging onto three different colours. (and the entangled balls and actually going forward!) This is good, because while ordering my Denise Interchangeible Knitting Needles, I saw this pattern . . . in my *not so LNS*

So the cutey patootie will get a deluxe coat and may-be the third bib will end up on a drooling Rottie, man, they love my whole wheat raisin bread!
